Polish Comparisons - Oranges

Okay, here is another in my series of polish comparisons, this time we are covering the oranges.......

China Glaze Peachy Keen, OPI In my Back Pocket
and OPI Chop-sticking to my Story

Rimmel Pro Orange Bliss, Barry M Orange
and China Glaze Orange Marmalade

All polishes were pictured with two coats, all applied very well indeed and gave a great finish.


China Glaze Peachy Keen - a very opaque creme in a light to mid peach shade. Opaque in two coats.

OPI In my Back Pocket - a mid orange creme, not too bright, slightly muted in tone. Very pretty and opaque in two coats.

OPI Chop-sticking to my Story - a rich burnt, darker orange creme, Very opaque, two coats used here.




China Glaze Orange Marmalade - a slightly more sheer polish in a rich bright mid orange, filled with glass type flecks. Very pretty indeed and great coverage in two coats, three may be better if you prefer completely opaque.

Barry M Orange - a standard bright orange creme. Opaque in two coats

Rimmel Pro Orange Bliss - a more deep peachy orange creme. Opaque in two coats.


All very pretty. My personal favourites are China Glaze Orange Marmalade, as it is so pretty with the glass flecks.......and OPI Chop-sticking to my Story, as it is just so opaque and a lovely shade of burnt orange, when you want to be more subtle and not so in your face.

Polish Comparison request for Abbzzw - Barry M Mint Green/Collection 2000 Button Moon

Okay, a little post to update yesterdays one.

In the comments yesterday I had one from Abbzzw, thinking that Collection 20000 Button Moon was the same as Barry M Mint Green. I think they are quite different, so I offered to compare them for her and post it here......

As you will see Barry M Mint Green is just that, a mint green creme, Collection 2000 Button Moon is actually more of a baby blue, though it does have green in there, it is I guess more of an aqua than mint or blue........

All the swatches show two coats of each colour. Barry M applied the nicest, but Collection 2000 was slightly more opaque, but more chalky, both looked fine with two coats.

Well, Abbzzw, I hope this gives you a better idea of how they look and that they are not really as close as you thought, you can get both! Hooray!!!!
If you get them from Boots or Superdrug, then you can always compare them in store, then you can see the difference clearly, though Button Moon applies a little more blue on the nail than in the bottle.

Polish Comparisons - Glitters

Today's comparison is my teeny collection of full on glitter polishes. I don't have many, as I don't wear them that often, but the ones I have, I love!

OPI Absolutely Alice & Mad as a Hatter,

China Glaze Emerald Sparkle, Ginger, Fortune Teller

OPI's Absolutely Alice and Mad as a Hatter

OPI Absolutely Alice - is a favourite of mine. I adore this polish. It is very densly filled with tiny blue glitter and sprinkled through with gold. It is breath-taking and sure to become a classic. Such an amazing colour and just solid glitter. You can see my review/swatch and konad of Alice here.

OPI Mad as a Hatter - is a blingy one! Filled with mainly silver small glitter, but also generous amounts of many other colours, it glimmers and sparkles like crazy, not for the faint of heart! Not quite as dense as Alice, but still can be built for great coverage.

China Glaze's Emerald Sparkle, Ginger and Fortune Teller

China Glaze Emerald Sparkle - okay, not much I can say here, it's a classic, iconic polish. Loads of tiny green glitter in a deep green jelly like polish. It has so much depth to it , it has to be seen to be believed, a real beauty.

China Glaze Ginger - a fabulous polish this one. A base colour of an almost metallic coppery shade sparsley filled with teeny silvery glitter and larger round holographic glitter. I love this one, glittery but not overkill, just a sprinkling of glittery goodness.

China Glaze Fortune Teller - I lusted after this for ages, it is such a amazing polish. It is a black base filled with two types of orange glitter, small and larger hexagonal shapes. It just looks like glowing embers.

Polish Comparisons - Glitter Top Coats

Today's comparison is a bit different. not colours this time, but Glitter type Top Coats, a nice change and good for blinging up our regular polishes.

La Femme Beauty Fairy Dust, Maybelline Flash Cosmic, China Glaze Wireless,

Gosh Rainbow and Gosh Bright Passion

La Femme Beauty Fairy Dust - I got this off Ebay, never heard of this make before, its a cheapie and not bad. It is a clear jelly with small particles of multi-coloured glitter. Your pretty typical glitter top coat. A more subtle one and great to build up. Coverage is more random though so you have to work at the bare patches ;)

Maybelline Flash Cosmic - this is a clear varnish with larger flakes of iridescent glitter, they flash blue when the light hits. Good coverage with one coat and very pretty.

China Glaze Wireless - I love this one. It has the tiniest pieces of holographic glitter which give multi-coloured bling to your polish. You get a great, really even coverage with one coat and it can build up well with more. A very subtle and pretty top coat, I adore this one.

Gosh Rainbow - is stunning! My only flakie and it is fab. It has larger iridescent flakes suspended in a clear jelly. The coverage is really good and the effect amazing. These flakes flash from gold, to orange, to green and even show pinks and purples in certain lights. Scrummy! See my review and swatches here.

Gosh Bright Passion - is a stick type glitter. It is suspended in a murky grey/black jelly so is only really suitable over very dark polishes. It sparkles in rainbow tones when the light hits. I'm not too sure on this one. I wanted to like it, but I am not a fan really. Looks lovely over black, but only when used sparsely, too much and it looks like you dipped your fingers in hundred and thousands (sugar cake decorations) LOL

Polish Comparisons - Yellows

Okay here is another in my series of colour comparisons. As you know, I wanted to be able to show the colour groups in my collection and maybe help you to choose the right shade for you, or to see if you already have dupes in your collections.

Today we have yellows, now I only have four of these, not the easiest colour to wear so I don't have many of them :)

I have OPI Lemonade Stand by Your Man, Nubar Lemon Sorbet,
Barry M Yellow and OPI The 'IT' color

OPI Lemonade Stand by Your Man is a sheer polish which can be built up to be more opaque on the nail, four coats gives great deep colour, one gives subtle colour, the photos below show three coats. It has lots of bling quality as it is filled with shimmery goodness.

Nubar Lemon Sorbet is a wonderful, pastel yellow creme, it is very pale and applies very opaque without being chalky. It is a lovely polish, the photo shows 2 coats.

Barry M Yellow is a bright yellow creme. It applies opaque and two coats was good to go, great quality for such a cheap polish! Gotta love those Barry M's.

OPI The 'IT' color is a another bright yellow creme, this time it has a more golden yellow tone, almost like a rich golden egg yolk shade. The photo shows three coats, though two is pretty good as well.

Polish Comparisons - Greys

This post will be a first in a series where I compare colour groups in my collection. I always find it interesting to compare polishes to similar shades. I hate buying dupes unless I intend to, so seeing how polishes compare can really help decide on the best shade for you or if you have one close to it already.

A few posts ago I swatched Orly's Mirror Mirror, I decided it would be a good idea to show my other greys as well. I have five greys in total, as I wanted a light, mid and dark range of greys.

I have included, what I call a 'Wildcard' polish. Wildcards are polishes that will fit into more than one colour group. A good example of a Wildcard polish is China Glaze's For Audrey, this could belong to both mint and pastel blue colour groups, as it contains hints of both shades.

Today's Wildcard is Orly's Pixie Dust, as it is a grey, but also leans towards lilac, so this will also appear in the lilac group for comparison purposes. It looks very blue/lilac in the bottle, but on the nail it shows more grey.

Barry M Grey and Nails Inc Elgin Avenue

All, except Pixie Dust, are cremes and most are opaque in two coats, the Barry M and Nails Inc applied the nicest and most opaque, with Orly and China Glaze second in ease of application.

Orly Pixie Dust is a grey with a hint of lilac to it. It is filled the glass type glitter giving it a lovely sparkle when the light hits and it just lifts it and creates a nice change to the usual grey cremes. Two coats is okay and shows the sparkle most, three would be give a more solid finish.

Orly Mirror Mirror is a very soft, pale grey. Very classy and a great shade for a subtle grey look.

China Glaze Recycle is the iconic grey, everyone knows this one. It is a fab colour. A mid grey with a hint of taupe to it, warms it up a bit and stops it looking too stark.

Barry M Grey is a good solid utility type grey, a deeper mid toned, darker than Recycle. A great cheap polish with fab application.

Nails Inc Elgin Avenue is a fabulous deep, rich charcoal grey. A great classy alternative to black for a much softer look.


As you can see all are completely different in their shade and cover range of shades well.
